About the Conference
AAALAC International is organizing its second European Conference on 11 September, 2012 in Aachen, Germany. The AAALAC Council on Accreditation recently adopted the European Convention ETS 123, the 8th edition of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (Guide) and the Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Research and Testing (Ag Guide) as the Three Primary Standards for accreditation of animal care and use programmes. The Conference will focus on how the AAALAC accreditation process, using these standards, works in concert with the new European framework.
AAALAC Council and staff members will discuss the key areas to address in the process of combining the Three Primary Standards with the implementation of the new European Directive 2010/63/EU. Also, Ms. Susanna Louhimies from the European Commission will describe the progress of the Expert Working Groups that the Commission has established to help harmonise the implementation of the Directive across Europe. This Conference will provide a unique opportunity to clarify concepts about the AAALAC accreditation process, exchange ideas on good practices and harmonise animal care and use across Europe. The AAALAC conference immediately precedes the GV-SOLAS meeting (12-14 September), thus making it even more attractive to continue your stay in the beautiful city of Aachen.
