Become an AAALAC Member Organization
What it means to be an AAALAC Member Organization
AAALAC International Member Organizations are a select group of prestigious scientific, professional and educational organizations with an interest in advancing biomedical research and animal well-being in science. Each Member Organization appoints a representative to serve on the AAALAC International Board of Trustees.
By actively involving major scientific, educational and professional organizations on its Board, AAALAC makes sure that members of the scientific community understand and support the AAALAC International accreditation program.
The benefits of becoming a Member Organization
Becoming an AAALAC Member Organization demonstrates your membership's commitment to responsible animal care and use. It's an opportunity to join with other prestigious groups to communicate a unified position on animal research issues.
Membership allows your members' views on the care and use of animals in science to be heard. It also offers a chance to help shape AAALAC's programs and policies.
Responsibilities
As a Member Organization, you will appoint one representative to serve on the AAALAC International Board for a three-year term. Your representative acts as a liaison between your organization and AAALAC International. Board members are responsible for advising AAALAC on positions and activities, voting on behalf of their organizations, participating in one annual meeting, and disseminating information about AAALAC to their memberships.
Member Organizations are asked to make a modest contribution to AAALAC International in the form of annual dues. An organization's dues are based on its budget and financial ability, and go to support new programs, initiatives of the Board of Trustees, and other activities that advance AAALAC's mission. Your organization is also responsible for the travel costs incurred to send your representative to AAALAC's annual meeting which is usually held in Bethesda, Maryland (close to Washington, D.C.), in September.
Applying
Potential Member Organizations are asked to complete and submit an application form with several attachments. Applications are then considered and approved by the AAALAC Board. E-mail the AAALAC office to receive an application package.
